They say you save the Best for last, and with the Playstation 4 due to release this holiday season that is exactly what Naughty dog and Sony bring you the best. The Last of Us is the best game I've played on the Playstation 3. Every aspect of the game is masterful from the characters to its excellent story telling, and exciting gameplay. The fight for survival is put to the test in this game.
The Last of Us tells the story of Joel and Elle as they travel across the post apocalyptic United States. The last of Us is a marvel to gaze upon, even after witnessing what next-gen consoles are capable of, you can't help but be amazed. Every setting the game takes place in looks amazing, this game is truly one of the best looking games offered on PS3. You take the role of Joel Set 20 years after a fungus outbreak destroys humanity. The last of us does a great job of reminding you over and over of the pain and lost survivors endured. The games brilliant narrative and overall pacing gives you a feeling of actually being there. The story itself isn't about how the world became this way but the relationship between Joel and Elle. Unlike Joel who knows what life was before these events, Elle was born into this world. Their interactions with each other set the pace for the story, but Ella quickly becomes the Star. Their constant conversations throughout the game grow deeper and better as the game progresses forming a great father daughter bond. Considering both characters didn't trust each other at first seeing the relationship grow between the two during the insanity the world goes through makes for an excellent story.
The Story alone is enough to propel this game as one of the best, but fortunately the gameplay is just as good. Your fight for survival is put to the test as the infected (those infected by the fungus) constantly hunt you down. Don't ever think for a second you're safe as they continue to hound you like COD zombies on level 58. Though the infected are dangerous they are the least of your worries as you have to deal with the remnants of the government and lawless renegades who require a different approach when dealing with. Where as the infected's only game plan is to rush towards you human enemies work together with tactical operations to take you down. The combat system slightly reminds me of the freedom of weapon choice in the "Dead rising" series, except ammunition is scarce and must be rationed, forcing you to engage in a more hand to hand approach, or stealthy one. Patience is key as when you can be stealthy it's recommended that you are, it should be your first option in terms of taking out your advisories. The "crafting" system which greatly benefits your survival as well also leaves you in a state of vulnerability. For when you attempt to make items with supplies found though out the world it is done in real time, meaning anything and everything can still jump out at you so remember to always make sure the cost is clear, and in this game it's never clear.
The Last of Us is the best game to date on the PS3. No other title fully captures you in the story while offering an amazing combat system to back it up. It's like your favorite TV show on its final season you want to know how it ends but don't want to get there cause you want so much more, and can't find yourself saying goodbye to the characters that you have grown to know and love.
Verdict: I'm awarding it a 10/10 every PS3 owner should own this game no questions asked. It is easily in the top spot for Game of The Year shoving Bioshock: infinite into 2nd place.
